Öland's lively capital
Borgholm is Öland's only town, home to around 3,000 people, and the island's summer hub. Wooden houses from the 19th century, a pedestrian-friendly high street lined with shops and cafés, and a busy harbour give the town its character. In peak season the population multiplies many times over.
Castles above the town
High above Borgholm stands the imposing Borgholm Castle ruin, and right next to it is Solliden Palace, the royal family's summer residence. Both are among the island's most-visited sights and are quick to reach from town.
Swimming and strolling
A waterfront promenade runs from the harbour, and swimming spots south of town invite a dip in the Kalmar Strait. Borgholm makes an ideal base for exploring the north of the island and its interior.
