Ölands Djurpark, officially Ölands Djur- och Nöjespark, near Färjestaden is the island's biggest family day out. The grounds combine three worlds: a zoo, an amusement park with carousels and rides, and one of Sweden's largest water parks. If you're exploring Öland with children, this park is hard to miss.

Zoo with safari

The zoo section shows a broad mix of exotic and native animals, including tigers, lions, zebras, spectacled bears, lynx, gibbons and chimpanzees. A dedicated safari area brings together species such as zebra, ostrich, wildebeest and lemurs. Secondary sources put the count at around 160 species; the official website itself doesn't name a specific species or animal count, so the previously cited figure of over 1,000 animals should be treated with caution.

Rides and water park

The amusement park offers numerous carousels and rides for different age groups, plus a mountain railway, fishing pond and games. The centrepiece for hot days is the water park Pirat-ön (Pirate Island):

  • one of Sweden's largest interactive water parks, around 15,000 square metres
  • a large paddling pool roughly 55 by 55 metres
  • six water slides plus adventure and children's pools
  • heated water for longer swimming fun

In high season, all of this is included in admission, so you can freely combine the zoo, rides and swimming.

The park runs on a pronounced seasonal schedule. In 2026 the season starts on 14 May, with the full park open during high season from 13 June to 16 August, only then are the rides and water park reliably running. In low season, only the zoo opens on many days, and days and hours change depending on the date.

Getting there and practical info

The park is at Djurparksvägen 1, 386 90 Färjestaden, close to the Öland Bridge (Ölandsbron) and so easily reached from Färjestaden. Parking costs 60 SEK per day. The park can be reached by phone on 0485-392 22.
